Today I made the switch. I went from being a PC user to becoming a Mac user. I went and make the jump to an iMac. I definately can see that this will be a learning process. So far I like what I see.

The Peter Principle and Fear

At my church, SouthGate, we are reading and discussing the book 'Tribes', by Seth Godin. Today we discussed "The Peter Principle" found on page 44.

This principle was proposed by Dr. Laurence Peter. He stated;

in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.

Seth Godin paraphrases it this way;

in every organization everyone rises to the level at which they become paralyzed with fear

He goes on to say;

The essence of leadership is being aware of your fear (and seeing it in the people you wish to lead). No, it won't go away, but awareness is the key to making progress.

A couple of pages over on page 46 he talks how fear is overrated. Two points he says that stand out to me are;

What people are afraid of isn't failure. It's blame. Criticism.

We chose not to be remarkable because we are worried about criticism.

When I think about stepping up and out in the midst of our fears, I think of the movie Braveheart, in particular this quote from William Wallace;

Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!

When I relate this to my life, I think of it in these terms.

Step out and and take the lead, take that promotion with more responsibility and yes, you may fail, you may get mocked and ridiculed... Pass it up and you will be safe from that....at least for a little while. And sitting back in your retirement years, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and take that lead role, to become the leader that you were meant to be, and to tell your enemy (fear) that yes, I may fail, I may get mocked,others may ridicule me, but I am a leader and that, you can not take away from me!

As we were going over this topic this morning that particular scene in the movie kept running through my head.

Talk about fear, men leading others into battle, I mean real life and death battle. But yet, they have to overcome that fear, they have to instill in their men the ability to overcome their own fear. Their fear is legitimate, they could die. We are not just talking about fear of rejection, or be ridiculed because we made a bad decision.

So, for me, I can take that step, yes I still have fear that I may fail, but I will still be alive to try again. You may ridicule me for a decision, but I still have the opportunity to correct it and make it work.

So with that, I am going to step up and take the lead, I am going to be a leader when I see that one is needed or that it will help the tribe.

I do not know why, but I am in a really bad slump right now. I feel very dry, down and depressed. Nothing seems to help. My insides feel like they just want to split me open. Depression medication does not seem to be doing the trick. Nor does writing about it. So I am out.

I sat down today to put to paper my goals for 2009. As I was putting my goals down I realized that they fell into a few different categories. They are; Personal, Family, Faith or Spiritual Relationship, Household,and Health. I am still working on them, so what I have here I may expound on. As I list them here, they are in no particular order. Here is what I have so far.

Personal
Read more books (min.1 per month)
Post on both of my blogs on a consistent basis (min. 1x per week)
Get a new Job!

Family
Spend more quality time with my wife Jin
Photograph,Photograph,Photograph,Photograph Jedidiah

Household
Replace carpet throughout house
Get back yard back into Better Homes and Garden shape

Lose weight (down to 200 lbs) (47 lbs)

I wanted a pocket camera to have with me all the time. I was not trying to replace my professional cameras,but wanted something (1) less expensive to carry around and not worry about it as much. Computer Problems Galore

Well, it has happened, my desktop is down for the count. After many days of struggling and trying to figure out what is wrong, it down for good. I am thinking of taking it in to see if it is an easy fix that would be inexpensive, or if it is time to by a new desktop.

Many I have spoken to about the crash of my pc have to me to buy a MAC. I have asked for the benefits in some detail but have yet to get any that would convince me to put my money into a MAC.

Not, that I am opposed. I just am not as familiar with MAC as I am with the brand names of the pcs.

So, for now I am on the laptop and of course the good ol' Blackbery.

What Is Planned Parenthood Teaching? (Warning: Mature Subject Matter)

Visit there website and you may be surprised and appalled as was I.
I actually have never visited Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) or any other Planned Parenthood (PP) before, nor did I ever have the desire to do so. That was until I read this blog post from Leaningright. In this post the author discloses that PPIN is offering gift certificates for your choice of birth control.

I was appalled by this idea and wanted to know more so I visited PPIN' website. After looking through the site I noticed the tab "birth control", so I clicked on the link to see what they may be offering for the gift certificate. I seen a term call "outercourse", I wanted to see what they called this form of birth control. Again, let me say I was appalled. One particular statement stuck out. It reads:

Advantages for Teens

Outercourse can completely satisfy both partners and take a lot of pressure off young women and men. Outercourse helps partners learn about their bodies and how to give themselves and each other sexual pleasure.

PPIN is promoting sexual relations between teens! Oh the argument exists, "They are going to have sex anyway, so lets tell them how." Give me a break. How about teaching them abstinence! How about teaching them to wait until they are married!

Reading further into this type of "birth control" they continued to be even more appalling.

They go on and to explain the different methods for outercourse.

How Do I Have Outercourse?
There are many ways to be sexual without intercourse:

Kissing — Many people explore different ways of kissing. They may also explore kissing different body parts.

Masturbation — Many people enjoy touching their own sex organs. It's the most common way to be sexual. Partners can masturbate alone or together. They may hug and kiss while they do it. They can also watch each other — which can be exciting and a good way to learn what kind of touch a partner likes.

Manual Stimulation — Many couples fondle each other's sex organs using their hands. Some also use their bodies or mouths.

Body-to-body rubbing — frottage, "grinding," or "dry humping" — Many couples rub their bodies together — especially their sex organs — for pleasure and orgasm.

Fantasy — Couples can read or watch sexy stories or pictures together. They can also share or act out sexy fantasies. People do it in person, on the phone or Internet, or through e-mail or instant messaging. (Using online technology for sex is called cybersex.)

Sex Toys — These include vibrators and dildos. Toys can be used to explore and caress the body. Condoms can be used on toys that go into the vagina or anus. Condoms need to be used if partners want to share the same toy. Use a new condom for each partner — and for each part of the body. Sex toys need to be cleaned — different toys have different cleaning instructions.

Oral Sex Play — Many people like to use their mouths on each other's sex organs. Oral sex on a woman is called "cunnilingus." On a man it's called "fellatio." It cannot cause pregnancy. But it can pass infection. Using a barrier can reduce the risks. Condoms that have been cut open, Sheer Glyde dams, dental dams, and plastic wrap make good barriers for oral sex on a woman. Condoms make good barriers for oral sex on a man. Many people use latex or plastic barriers that are non-lubricated or flavored for oral sex.

Anal Sex Play — Many people enjoy anal sex play. Partners can explore each other's buttocks, anus, and rectum with their hands, mouths, sex organs, or with toys. Anal sex play cannot cause pregnancy — but it can easily pass infection. Using a latex or plastic barrier can reduce the risks. Using lubrication can make it more comfortable.

This is what our children are being taught by PPIN and I am sure by PP as I do not believe one is separate for the other.

Not only are they promoting sexual acts, but are encouraging our teenagers to watch and look at pornography! Are you for real????
They are encouraging phone sex and cyber sex. Encouraging teens to use technology to help stimulate one another.

They do give "advantages" and "disadvantages" to "outercourse" and the desire for intercourse is stated as a disadvantage But come on, what do you expect? With all the sexual tension being built by this so called "outercourse type of birth control", you honestly think that teenagers will have the discipline to refrain?

I think teaching to to avoid such tension building acts would be a better avenue to travel down. But hey, what do I know? I am just a common, average citizen, who has not has the extensive training that those in PPIN and PP have had.

Black Friday, What The Heck!

Black Friday, we all know what it is all about. People getting up very early in the morning to get to the store so they can get in on the great deals. But I ask, are the deals so great that you are willing to risk your life over them?

This year has been no different then years past. As soon as Black Friday had started the news channels were filming the mayhem. They began reporting on the injuries, the deaths.

One such report from NY Daily News tells of a Wal* Mart employee being trampled to death by the rushing crowds just as the doors were opened. The crowd in such a hurry to find that "deal" knocked this man down, and ran over him. Reports even state that you could hear people laughing about him laying there and getting trampled. I ask these people, was your material item worth this
mans life?

A shooting that took the life of two men in a Palms Desert, Ca. Toys R Us store has been reported as an ongoing dispute between two parties.
Question: If this was an on going dispute, why bring it to a toy store on such a day as Black Friday? The store is filled with hundreds of parents and children shopping for toys.

I have never and will never be caught in thus ridiculous ritual. I in fact believe that with the continuance of injuries and deaths each year, that this type of event should be stopped.

Discouraged, Disheartened, Distracted?

With the current events surrounding the election our next president, I have been distracted, discouraged, and disheartened. I was totally focused on the results of the election. My head was spinning, my pulse was racing, my head hurt, my body hurt. I was fearful of what the future now held for us, my family, my friends, Our Country.

I voiced my concerns with friends. My wife, local friends, and those on Facebook and Twitter. I am blessed to have friends who share my faith. Friends who help when I am distracted, discouraged, and disheartened. On several occasions they reminded me that God was in control. That it is He that I should be focused on and not the events of this.

As I reflected on what my dear friends had told me, I was reminded of the old hymn, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus". I have always loved this hymn, and especially like the rendition that the Newsboys made.

I came home today and searched YouTube for this rendition. I needed to hear it sung. Although I had been singing the hymn all day in my head, I needed to hear it played.

Below is the video that I pulled off Youtube, I encourage you to take the time and watch it. Listen to the words, even though you may already know them, listen, let the words resonate in your spirit, and most importantly turn your eyes upon Jesus, in bad times, but also in good times.

With the election now just a day away, the people of the United States will be making a crucial choice. One of the effects of that choice will be, whether it is decided that it is now open season on the unborn or whether these precious, precious little ones will be protected. I plead and pray that we as a nation will not let these little ones be murdered. God help us if we fail.

Obama believes that getting pregnant after willingly having sex, that you should if you choose, have the right to abort that "mistake", so as not to "punish" you with a baby.

If I willingly touch a hot burner with my hand, should I then cut off my hand so I will not have to be punished with the blisters and the pain of that burn?

Aborting a baby makes as much sense as cutting off your hand!

Punishment?????

This is why I could never vote to but Obama the in office of president. I can not be a vote/voice that would punish the unborn with death.I have to be a voice and a vote for them, because they cannot speak for themselves. Some argue that abortion should be a choice for rape victims and women with their lives at risk.
They use this as the premise as to why they vote poor-choice (pro). I believe that statistics would show that the rate of abortions by women in these two categories are miniscule to the rate in which women do it so that as Obama says: "not to be punished with a baby". I ask, what have we become as humans, if we can discard life because we see it as a punishment.

Andrew Peterson is an American singer-songwriter who plays Christian folk music. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Jamie, sons Aedan and Asher, and daughter Skye.
Peterson is a founding member of the Square Peg Alliance. He has toured with Caedmon's Call, Nichole Nordeman, Jill Phillips, Andrew Gullahorn, Ben Shive, Eric Peters, and other members of the Square Peg Alliance.

In 1996, Peterson began touring across America with his wife Jaime, and guitarist Gabe Scott. Peterson had yet to release a full-length album, and had no recording contract. Then one day, Caedmon's Call lead guitarist and vocalist Derek Webb came across his website, and was so impressed by the lyrics that he invited Peterson to open for his band at an upcoming show. The band enjoyed his performance and he was invited to join them on their 1998 tour. [1]

This led to Peterson signing in 1999 with Watershed/Essential Records. His first full-length album, Carried Along was released in 2000. The album was listed on CCM Magazine's list of the Top 10 albums of 2000. [1] It featured the top ten radio single, “Nothing to Say.” [2]
Peterson's second album, Clear to Venus released on September 11, 2001.

In 2003, Peterson released Love and Thunder. It featured Alison Krauss, Cliff Young and Randall Goodgame and was produced by Dove Award winning Christian music veteran, Steve Hindalong. [1] Also in 2003, Peterson read narration for the audio version of Ray Blackston's novel Flabbergasted, and Caedmon's Call recorded "Mystery of Mercy", a song Peterson co-wrote with Randall Goodgame, for their album Back Home

In 2004, Peterson's song "Family Man", from the album Love and Thunder, was nominated in the category "Country Recorded Song of the Year" for the 35th Annual Dove Awards. [2] Peterson also released a Christmas album, Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ. Since the holiday season of 2004, Peterson and a wide variety of fellow Nashville area musicians have gone on tour playing the songs from the album. Musicians involved in the tour include: Ron Block, Garett Buell, Cason Cooley, Sara Groves, Andrew Gullahorn, Phil Keaggy, Sandra McCracken, Bebo Norman, Fernando Ortega, Andrew Osenga, Eric Peters, Pierce Pettis, Jill Phillips, Gabe Scott, Ben Shive, David Wilcox and Derek Webb. The tour culminates in an annual performance in Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

In 2005, Peterson released The Far Country and Appendix A: Bootlegs and B Sides.

In 2006, Peterson worked with his friend Randall Goodgame to release Slugs & Bugs & Lullabies, a children's album. The album produced two tracks which were featured on the newest video in the best-selling Veggie Tales series called The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's.[1] Peterson sang the song "Arise, Arise" on Songs from the Voice, Vol. 2: Son of the Most High, a compilation album produced by Don Chaffer of Waterdeep. That same year, Michael Card recorded Peterson's song "The Silence of God" for his album The Hidden Face of God. Peterson has appeared on Card's radio show on numerous occasions.

In 2007, Peterson independently released Appendix M: Media / Music / Movies, an EP containing live versions, original demos, and rarities.
Peterson has recently completed recording Resurrection Letters, Volume Two, a collection of songs about what the resurrection of Jesus Christ means for people today, due to be released in Fall 2008. [3]

In 2007, Andrew Peterson published The Ballad of Matthew's Begats with illustrator Cory Godbey. It is a children's book based on the song of the same name from Peterson's annual Christmas show, Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ. [4]
Peterson is also currently writing a fantasy series of novels for young adults entitled The Wingfeather Saga, which is to be published by Waterbrook Press, a subsidiary of Random House. The first novel, On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, was released March 18, 2008. [5][1]

We Are No Longer A Christian Nation

I received this in an e-mail today, I thought I would share with you here. Folks, if this man becomes president, we are all in serious trouble, yet to be seen.

As I was listening to a news program last night, I watched in horror as Barack Obama made the statement with pride. . "we are no longer a Christian nation; we are now a nation of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists" . . . As with so many other statements I've heard him (and his wife) make, I never thought I'd see the day that I'd hear something like that from a presidential candidate in this nation.

To think our forefathers fought and died for the right for our nation to be a Christian nation -- and to have this man say with pride that we are no longer that. How far this nation has come from what our founding fathers intended it to be?

I hope that each of you will do what I'm doing now -- send your concerns, written simply and sincerely, to the Christians on your email list. With God's help, and He is still in control of this nation and all else, we can show this man and the world in November that we are, indeed, still a Christian nation!

Day 4 On The Broke Back Wagon

No, this has absolutely nothing to do with "Brokeback Mountain". This has do do with my broke back, not broke as in broken bones, but broke in the sense that it is not working right.

Sunday morning as I was getting up out of bed to go to church, I felt it. How could I not. The pain was searing. At the lower part of my back, very close to the waist line. Moving seemed impossible, especially without pain.

Okay, first I must sit up, wow, that was a feat in itself. In order to sit up I have to swing both feet over the bed. Okay, now I am sitting up, now time to stand up. Oooooh the pain. Okay now straighten up, easier said then done. Okay now step by step, to the bathroom for a shower, maybe a nice hot shower will loosen up the back.

The shower did not do the trick, back still hurts and it is hard to walk. Walking must be done (as if I could do it any other way) slow and easy.

Pass a mirror, look to the left. "Who is that old man in the mirror all hunched over?"Oh what have I done to my back?

Okay so the back is out, and hurts all day Sunday. Monday morning comes, I call off of work and schedule an appointment with the doctor. Doctor says that is nothing more then a strained muscle. That is good news. Gives me prescriptions for pain medicine and muscle relaxers. Does not want me to go back to work until Thursday.

Tuesday, the meds are working, I feel a lot better, still slow at walking and getting up but the pain is minute compared to Sunday and Monday. I get myself ready and go to work. I give my manager the doctor's note. She can't work me. Needs a weight restriction from the doctor. Sends me back home.

I call the doctors office and ask them to fax a weight restriction. They do. Wednesday morning, I call to see what the prognosis is. Can't work again. My weight restriction is 15 lbs. Nothing there for me to do. So now I am out of work for three days now, all with no pay.

Manager is trying to get a hold of my doctor to see how long I will be on weight restriction. May not be able to work the rest of this week.

Financial forecast looks gloomy with a chance of showers.

The Fall TV Dilemma

Okay, Fall TV is here and the season premiers are quickly approaching. After looking at the line up for the shows I like, I once again this Fall, find myself in a dilemma on some days.

Either I have favorites that will be airing at the exact same time or one over laps another.

Here is my schedule of shows I like.

Monday: nothing, so no problem here.

Tuesdays: What a mess.
8p-9pm NCIS on CBS
8-10p Biggest Loser on NBC
9-10p Fringe on FOX
10-11p Without A Trace

Wednesdays: Maybe only one show.
9-10p Criminal Minds on CBS

Thursdays: No Problems, they all fall in order.
8-9p Survivor on CBS
9-10p CSI on CBS
10p-11p either Life on Mars ABC or Eleventh Hour on CBS or maybe neither

Fridays: Only one
8-9p Ghost Whisperer on CBS

Saturdays: Nothing

Sundays: Only one.
10-11p The Unit

And then add the dilemma when 24 comes back on.

So it looks like I have my work cut out for me. If I had a DVR I would have this all figured out.

A New Name, A New Series

Today marked the launch of the new name for our church. Formerly known as Calvary Temple, we are now known as Southgate Church. Today I guess you can say was the inaugural sermon with the new name. Here Is a photo of Pastor Edgar giving this morning's sermon.

Today's sermon was also the beginning of a new series called Life Coach.

I look forward to this series, because no matter where you are in your walk with Christ, there is always a next level, and we all need help getting there. I am glad that there are more levels as I would not really like the idea of being at the same level all the time.

I believe that we are a bit like water, if we continue to stay in one place,(i.e. not advancing to the next level) we will, like the water, become stagnant. We like the water need to move, we need to have a flowing in and a flowing out. By having this we will advance to the next level. I for one do not want to be stagnant in my walk and relationship with Christ.
